--G Nikolai Khabibulin started for the fourth consecutive game. He's the first Chicago goalie to start four games in a row this season, but he was forced out by an undisclosed injury in the last minute of the second period. It was the first time this season that a Blackhawks netminder didn't play a complete game.
--Brent Seabrook played for the first time on the road trip, but not as a defenseman. He was forced into service as a fourth-line winger when Adam Burish couldn't go. Burish missed his first game of the season.
--Patrick Kane was fifth and Jonathan Toews ninth among the forwards and Brian Campbell was fifth among the defensemen after two weeks of fan voting to determine the Western Conference starters for February's All-Star Game in Montreal.
--The entire team, plus a contingent of front office staffers, attended services for Stan Tallon, father of general manager Dale Tallon, in Gravenhurst, Ontario. Stan Tallon, who did some scouting for the Montreal Canadiens, was 80.
--On the minor league front, Jack Skille, who started the season with the Blackhawks, has 12 points in 13 games since behind sent down to Rockford. Antti Niemi, a free agent signee from Finland, has only a 5-4-1 record for the American Hockey League's IceHogs, but his 1.67 goals-against average and .939 save percentage are outstanding.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "All the rinks are the same size, so you can't build a team for a building. But (San Jose) has a lot of skill, a lot of talent and knows how to play when it has the lead. (The Sharks) just don't make mistakes, and you can't afford to make them against them." -- Blackhawks D Brian Campbell, who finished last season with San Jose.
