Chicago Blackhawks Notes, Quotes 2008-11-17
--Hawks' defenseman Brian Campbell played his first game against San Jose. He finished last season with the Sharks, and they tried to sign him, but Campbell opted to take an eight-year $56.8 million contract with the Hawks that made him the best-paid player in franchise history.

--San Jose center Jeremy Roenick, traded by the Hawks in 1996, still stands seventh in franchise history with 267 goals and eighth with 596 points. He played eight seasons for the Hawks and scored his first goal of this season against them.

--Trent Yawney, a San Jose assistant coach, coached the Hawks' minor league affiliate at Norfolk for five seasons before being named the Hawks' head coach in 2005. He was fired in November, 2006. "I learned a ton (while coaching the Hawks)," said Yawney, "and I'm happy where I am now. But I wish (the Hawks) nothing but the best."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I really liked San Jose. There are a lot of good people there, and it's a really good organization. It came down to where I wanted to be geographically. I wanted to be a little closer to my parents. That was a big part of it. The Sharks treated me first-class, but I knew (the Hawks) was the same and would be really hockey crazy. I knew I was leaving a winning team, but I know I made the right decision." -- Hawks' defenseman Brian Campbell, on why he chose the Hawks over the Sharks during last summer's free agent signing period.
