It's been lurking for almost two months. Now it's here. The Hawks have to take that traditionally difficult two-week road trip while a circus takes over the United Center in late November.

The Hawks have never done particular well on the trip, which has become a fixture on their schedule. Even in their last playoff season they were just 0-3-3 on the November nightmare.

This time, they go in with respectable play on home ice overall -- a 6-1-5 record -- but the last three games at the United Center didn't built any momentum for the trip. They were 0-1-2 to finish up a five-game homestand.

"To make the playoffs you usually have to be at least .500 on the road, and we're not there yet," said defenseman Brian Campbell.

The Hawks are 1-3-1 on the road heading into Tuesay's game at Phoenix. From there the Hawks go to Dallas, Toronto, San Jose, Anaheim and Los Angeles before returning to the United Center on Dec. 3 against Anaheim.

Coach Joel Quenneville didn't like the abundance of home games and thinks the trip will help the Hawks from a bonding standpoint. He also thinks it'll be a good test to see just where his young team stands.

SHARKS 6, BLACKHAWKS 5: San Jose scored four power play goals including two in the third period -- by Dan Boyle and Devin Setoguchi -- to wipe out a 5-4 Hawks' lead. The Hawks got two goals from Kris Versteeg, one of them with the Hawks playing shorthanded.
