The Blackhawks have to learn to play better when they're extended into overtime. They are 0-1 in overtime and 1-4 in shootouts through their first 15 games of the season. Those five points lost could prove costly later in the season when playoff berths are on the line.

One thing the Hawks can do is play well on home ice. They are 6-0-4 at the United Center and have played before sellout crowds every night. They should get another one Sunday when the San Jose Sharks visit.

After that, though, the Hawks will have to play well on the road to maintain their spot in playoff position. The Hawks are just 1-3-1 in road games so far. The San Jose game will end a stretch of five straight home games.

In the recent ones the Hawks have been encouraged by strong play from their third line of Dustin Byfuglien, Dave Bolland and Andrew Ladd. It accounted for all the goals in Friday's 4-3 overtime loss to St. Louis.

BLUES 4, BLACKHAWKS 3 (OT): Andy McDonald's power play goal 2:15 into overtime helped St. Louis end a 1-7-1 streak in its previous nine games. McDonald scored with Dave Bolland in the box for hooking. Bolland had two goals and assisted on the other for the Hawks.
